30 August 2017
University of Western Australia researcher Dr Sarah Bourke has won the Science Faculty’s Rising Stars event, proudly sponsored by Griffith Hack.
Dr Bourke won the $10,000 first prize for her presentation Understanding groundwater discharge: The key to sustainable groundwater use.
The second prize of $6,000 went to Dr Brendon O’Leary for Peak plant performance: Rooting out energy efficiency in crops and the $4,000 third prize went to Dr Louise Naylor with Exercise is your only medicine.
The winners will use the prize money to further their research.
The Rising Stars event sees Science Faculty researchers give short, three minute presentations on their work to an audience, with the winners chosen by popular vote.
Perth-based Griffith Hack Principal Stuart Boyer congratulated the winners and their fellow Rising Stars nominees for their presentations and the research they are undertaking.
“Events like these showcase the outstanding work our universities are undertaking to help solve problems and broaden our understanding of the world around us,” he said.
