Update on Expansion of Domain Names

The proposal would have enabled ICANN to gage interest in the proposed expansion of the domain name system.  At ICANN's meeting in Nairobi in March 2010 it was resolved not to proceed with the proposed Pre-Registration Model and instead focus the available resources to expedite the launch of the actual application process.  The next version of the Draft Applicant Guidebook, which sets out the application procedure and the available rights protection mechanisms for trade mark owners is expected to be published in June 2010.  Watch this space for updates on the proposed expansion of the domain name system.  For further information, contact: Jürgen Bebber, Senior Associate, jurgen.bebber@griffithhack.com.au
