Devita has a science background and obtained majors in genetics and biochemistry. She was awarded
honours in her law degree and her legal qualifications include studies in intellectual property, medical law
and technology.
In her undergraduate years she received an academic prize for her studies in technology and intellectual
property law. In 2009 she was awarded the IPSANZ prize for her essay entitled “The Copyright/Design
Overlap – will it ever come into fashion? A discussion of the current trend in the law in Australia and New
Zealand” which was published in Intellectual Property Forum magazine. Devita has also written articles for
industry publications including Fast Thinking Magazine.
She has a particular focus on intellectual property issues in the clothing and fashion industry and
represented Cotton On Clothing Pty Ltd in the Federal Court and Full Federal Court in the high profile case
against Elwood Clothing Pty Ltd.
Before joining Griffith Hack, Devita was an associate to a Supreme Court judge in South Australia and
gained extensive litigation experience with a law firm in Adelaide.
Devita is involved in a broad range of litigious matters involving copyright, trade marks, patents and designs.
With an Australian and overseas client base covering a wide range of industries from the building industry to
fashion brands, she has a particular focus on copyright and trade mark issues. Devita has recently
completed postgraduate studies in intellectual property law and is a qualified and registered trade mark
attorney.
