When Chris Sgourakis walks through the supermarket, he takes pride in the brands on the shelf that wouldn’t be there if not for his creative thinking. “The worst thing that can happen,” he says, “is if a branded product gets to market and then has to be recalled, relabelled or worse - especially when a simple opinion could have avoided it, and most of the times we’re talking about a phone call or work-around.”

Chris started his professional life as a highly qualified litigation lawyer, but trade marks have become his passion. Multi-nationals and startups alike now seek his help to bring their brands to market, protect them there and help them thrive.

Chris advises on brand strategies at all stages of the product cycle including brand selection, clearance searches, registration, infringement, enforcement, as well as related issues under consumer protection law, passing off, domain names, designs and copyright. He conducts trade mark oppositions and non-use actions before the Australian Trade Marks Office and the Federal Court of Australia.
