Dr Chris Vindurampulle is a registered Australian and New Zealand patent and trade marks attorney based in Melbourne.
He is recognised for his IP expertise and client-focused approach, having been listed by the IAM Patent 1000 as a recommended practitioner for patent prosecution, by WIPR as a leading IP practitioner and named a “Rising Star” by Managing IP.
Chris specialises in strategic patent protection and enforcement, with expertise in freedom-to-operate analyses, due diligence, opinions, and extensions of term, alongside drafting, filing, prosecution, and opposition. He also has substantial experience as a trade marks attorney, supporting clients in protecting and enforcing trade mark rights globally.
Chris possesses a diverse technical foundation spanning agri-technology (including plant breeders’ rights, genetic engineering in plants and animals, pesticides, and agricultural machinery), food technology (product development and processing innovations), and biotechnology. More prominently, his technical proficiency extends to biopharma (pharmaceuticals and biologics), diagnostics, medical devices, and medical therapies (including treatment and prevention strategies). Additionally, he holds expertise in hydrocarbon refining, alloy development, and advanced metal manufacturing techniques.
Holding a PhD, Chris’s early research focused on epitopic suppression – a phenomenon where pre-existing immunity to a bacterial vector impairs responses to recombinant bacterial vaccines. Following his PhD, he spent six years as a postdoctoral scientist, developing and patenting two key vaccine technologies: a DNA vector platform enabling foreign gene expression in bacteria without the use of antibiotic resistance markers, and a live-attenuated vaccine against Salmonella paratyphi A, now licensed to an Indian biotech company.
Chris actively supports the research and start-up ecosystem, providing education and mentorship on IP strategy, protection, and commercialisation.
