Leon Wong

Dr Leon Wong is a registered patent attorney based in Melbourne.

Leon is driven by the protection and success of his client’s chemistry-based inventions. With an extensive background in organic chemistry and pharmacology, Leon has a great ability to distil the most complex of ideas into their most basic elements, and to bring these elements together to give the best possible protection for an invention. 

Leon’s expertise includes preparing and prosecuting patent applications, providing opinions on patentability, infringement and validity, and advising on prosecution strategies which take into account the competing needs of research, financial and business priorities. Leon’s practice encompasses protection of chemical inventions, particularly in the field of organic chemistry, in key jurisdictions such as Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Europe, Asia and South America. 

Prior to registering as a patent attorney, Leon spent over 10 years in Australia and the United States undertaking research in areas such as cancer, HIV, Alzheimer’s disease, metal chelators for PET imaging, and organic solar cells, and teaching of organic chemistry and pharmacology.  Leon obtained his PhD at the University of Sydney and a Master of Intellectual Property Laws at the University of Melbourne.
