Tom Hamilton-Gilligan is a trainee patent attorney based in Melbourne.
Tom has a passion for IP strategy and analysis, having worked with small enterprises and start-ups, where he has contributed significantly towards clients’ infringement analysis, patent searches and reviews, and patent drafting. As a Trainee Patent Attorney, he has also developed his skills in patent examination processes, prosecution strategies, and client advisory work.
Whilst Tom has a special affinity working with start-up businesses, he has also worked with many large corporate organisations, where his Traineeship has developed his commercial focus around the IP services he provides to clients.
Tom is currently undertaking his Master of Intellectual Property Law at the University of Melbourne and has a technical background in Information and Communications Technology, previously working as a Software Engineer before moving to the world of IP.
Having studied Computer Science and Software Systems at the University of Melbourne, he has an understanding and appreciation of all areas of science and technology. During his Bachelor of Science, he also studied a variety of subjects covering other areas of science and engineering, such as physics, mathematics and electrical engineering.
